First Friday Comedy at Saw Works

 

First Friday Tumblr (2)Every month, Saw Works Brewing Company presents First Friday Comedy, a Knoxville stand-up comedy show featuring great traveling and local comedians to entertain you.

Hosted and produced by the comics of RainShine Comedy, each show includes a spotlight on Scruffy City comedians and some of the best performers from comedy scenes across the nation.

Of course, you can also enjoy Saw Works Brewing Company beers, lovingly crafted on site. Each month’s show also includes delicious food and treats from local food vendors. Get there early, seats fill up quickly.

Each show starts at 7 pm and is over by 9 pm. Perfect for a date night or as the start to an exciting Friday evening.

This month’s headline performer is Wayne Cousins of Columbia, SC. Joining him will be Grace Holtz (Chattanooga, TN) and John Gibson (Columbia, SC). Knoxville comedians Jake James and Daniel Wade will also perform. Sean Simoneau is this month’s host.

Previewing a Busy Summer Comedy Schedule

WBIR-TV, the NBC affiliate here in Knoxville, has generously offered Scruffy City Comedy the chance to provide viewers with a sneak preview of a few of the many great live comedy events taking place in the area in July.

Shane Rhyne was in the WBIR studio today sharing some highlights of five of the more than 70 live events scheduled.

Comedy Buffet with Kenny DeForest

Evatt and Bloom is excited to bring Kenny DeForest, hot off his headlining of the Memphis comedy festival to JJ’s Bohemia!

After 5 years coming up through Chicago’s notorious comedy scene, Kenny DeForest is now a New York-based comic known best as producer and co-host of “Comedy at the Knitting Factory”, widely considered to be New York’s best independently run comedy show, and he is a regular presence on the New York scene at large.

He has appeared in the Brooklyn Comedy Festival, Chicago Comedy Exposition, Accidental Comedy Festival, Red Clay Comedy Festival, New York Comedy Festival, and as an opening act for Hannibal Buress. His work as a stand-up comedian has gotten him featured in Brooklyn Magazine, The Observer, Time Out New York, and The New Yorker.

He has also appeared on TruTV’s “Friends of the People” and is a writer for MTV’s “Bugged Out”. In 2015, he was named one of Comedy Central’s “Comics to Watch” so, you should probably go watch him.

Knoxville’s long-form improv troupe Full Disclosure begins a new series of performances at the Arts and Culture Alliance’s headquarters at the Emporium Center on the 100 block of Gay Street. The troupe will perform on alternating First Fridays beginning in March.

On the first Friday of every month, Saw Works Brewing Company hosts a monthly showcase of traveling and local comedians. This month’s show is headlined by Trae Crowder and Corey Forrester. Local performances include Kristine Kinsey and Liz Brooks. Sean Simoneau is the host this month.

Friday, March 4: Hunger Isn’t Funny, But We Are (stand-up/fundraiser)

**7PM SHOW IS SOLD OUT. ** It’s a night of stand-up comedy to benefit Second Harvest Food Bank. The show is hosted by WIMZ’s Billy Kidd with stand-up performances from Octavius and Josh Phillips, and a headline performance from Julie Scoggins.

Knoxville Christian School. 7:30 pm. $25-40. All ages.

Knoxville native and nationally touring comedian Henry Cho performs his signature brand of clean comedy in a fundraiser concert to benefit Knoxville Christian School.

Sassy Ann’s might look like your grandma’s house on the outside, but inside you’ll find two bars, a dance floor, and live comedy. Join host Jake James for an evening of open mic comedy with some special guest featured comedians.

Saturday, March 5: Knoxtacular (variety show/fundraiser)

It’s a live radio telethon to raise funds for the Knoxville History Project, the Knoxville Mercury, and WDVX-FM. The Knoxtacular features a variety of local musicians, comics, spoken word performers, and more throughout the day performing live in the historic Bijou Theatre and on the air on WDVX-FM. Scheduled comedy performers include Victor Agreda, Jr. as one of the show’s emcees, along with stand-up performances from Matt Chadourne and Shane Rhyne.

Sunday, March 6: Mo Alexander at Upstairs Underground (stand-up & open mic)

Join host Boston McCown for Knoxville’s longest-running weekly comedy open mic. In addition to the open mic fun, this week’s show welcomes a feature performance from JC Ratliff and a headline performance from Memphis’ own Mo Alexander on his MoBility Tour.

Monday, March 7: QED Comedy Lab presents “Bury the Lede” (improv/experimental)

Knoxville’s experimental comedy show this week takes a trip to explore tabloid headlines. Performers will be shown shocking headlines and asked to tell us the details that didn’t make the news. Matt Chadourne is the host.

Knoxville’s legendary Longbranch Saloon, hosts an evening of open mic comedy. John Miller is the show’s host.

Knoxville’s long-form improv troupe Full Disclosure comedy performs on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of each month at Open Chord Music in west Knoxville.
