The University of Tennessee’s acclaimed Clarence Brown Theatre provides the world premiere of The Open Hand. The play was commissioned by the theater. The satire, written by Rob Caisley, explores the gap between those who have and those with dreams of having.
This production of The Open Hand will be staged in the Clarence Brown Lab Theatre, an intimate theater with limited seating. Productions may sell out fast. Check with the CBT website or box office to reserve tickets and confirm availability.
The play’s description from CBT:
Suppose someone is overly generous to you…offering something you couldn’t possibly repay. Do you reject their generosity and risk offending them? Or do you accept the gift and then stew over what might be demanded in return? We’ve all heard the phrase, “It’s better to give than to receive.” But what dark secrets may be camouflaged by our human need to share with others? This Clarence Brown Theatre commissioned satire ventures into this territory with wit and bite, observing the contemporary anxieties between those with means and those with hopes, dreams and disappointment.
The Clarence Brown Theatre is located on the University of Tennessee campus and is a part of the mission of the UT Department of Theatre to provide quality cultural entertainment for the campus and the region. The CBT includes three venues: the Clarence Brown Theatre mainstage, the Ula Love Doughty Carousel Theatre, and the Clarence Brown Lab Theatre. For driving directions and parking information, visit the CBT’s parking page. Individual tickets for CBT productions are only available through KnoxvilleTickets.com or by contacting the CBT box office.
