Welcome to another weekly edition of the Scruffy City Live Comedy Guide in East Tennessee. It’s packed full of information to help you find live comedy events across the 423 and 865 area code regions of East Tennessee from this weekend to next weekend.

This week’s guide brings you some of the biggest names in nationally touring comedy such as Eugene Mirman and rising stars at your local open mic. You’ll find experimental comedy, vaudeville shows, improv, musical comedy, live radio broadcasts, and more. Get out there and laugh this week.

TBS star of Deal with It and fan favorite of NBC’s Last Comic Standing Theo Von arrives for a weekend of comedy at Chattanooga’s Comedy Catch.

Sunday, April 17: Ray Stevens (stand-up/variety)
Tivoli Theatre. 7 pm. $49.50-$125. All ages.

Famed singer/songwriter Ray Stevens, known for comedy classics such as “The Streak,” “Guitarzan,” and more, performs at Chattanooga’s Tivoli Theatre. Southern comedian Etta May provides the opening act.

Sunday, April 17: ComedyFight! (open mic/stand-up/competition)
The Honest Pint. 10 pm. No cover. 21+

It’s an open mic comedy show, with a stand-up comedy contest included. Each week, two comics compete for audience votes. The winner closes the show with a longer set and moves on to the ComedyFight! bracket tournament where fame and glory await. Ian Sharp is your host. This week’s contest pits Will Foskey against Jared Nipper.

Monday, April 18: Third Monday Improv (improv)
The Granfalloon. 6:30 pm. $8. PG-13.

The folks at Improv Chattanooga debut a new monthly show tonight: Third Monday Improv at the The Granfalloon. The show featuring various long-form improv sketches will be held each month on, you guessed it, the third Monday of the month.

Tuesday, April 19: Comedy Buffet (stand-up)
JJ’s Bohemia. 9:30 pm. $10. 18+.

It’s another amazing Comedy Buffet with a trio of visiting comedians to entertain you. Ryan Singer, Dave Stone, and Andy Sandford are bringing their Three Headed Moron Tour to the Chattanooga stage tonight. Additional performances from Chattanooga’s Ben Dalby and Chris Hill. Ryan Darling is your host for the evening.

Wednesday, April 20: Comedy Catch Open Mic Wednesday (open mic)
Comedy Catch. 7 pm. $5. 18+.

Chattanooga’s Comedy Catch hosts a bi-monthly comedy open mic featuring local and regional performers. You might even get the chance to help select the best comic of the night with the winner earning a chance to perform a guest spot at that Sunday’s main show. Luke Marter is the host.

Wednesday, April 20: JJ’s Bohemia Open Mic (open mic)
JJ’s Bohemia. 8 pm. No cover. 18+.

Each week Ryan Darling and Ben Dalby welcome a mix of local and visiting comics to the stage for an evening of open mic comedy fun. Treat yourself to some laughter this week, Chattanooga.

Thursday, April 21: Michael Mack (stand up)
Comedy Catch. 7:30 pm. $10. 18+.

Comedian Michael Mack (as heard frequently on “The John Boy and Billy Show” and “The Bob and Tom Show”) is the headliner this weekend at Chattanooga’s The Comedy Catch at the Chattanooga Choo Choo.

Thursday, April 21: Open Mic Comedy at McHale’s (open mic)
McHale’s Brewhouse. 8 pm. No cover. 18+.

Chattanooga’s growing comedy scene continues to grow with the addition of Open Mic Comedy at McHale’s. Join host Jared Nipper for an evening of comedy fun at McHale’s Brewhouse.

What sort of experiment will the QED Comedy Lab host tonight? We can’t say for sure, but we think it will be some sort of lightning round comedy show so everyone can get to the Eugene Mirman on time down the street. Matt Chadourne is your host. Monday, April 18: Eugene Mirman & Robyn Hitchcock (stand-up & music)
Bijou Theatre. 8 pm. $25.

One of the most inventive and distinctive voices in comedy today is performing tonight at the Bijou Theatre. If you’ve never seen Eugene Mirman perform, you owe yourself this pleasure. For this tour, he is teamed up with one of the leading figures in the history of alternative rock, Robyn Hitchcock. It promises to be an amazing evening.

Tuesday, April 19: Einstein Simplified (improv)
Scruffy City Hall. 8:15 pm. No cover. 18+.

East Tennessee’s longest-running weekly improv show returns to Scruffy City Hall for an evening of hilarious misadventures inspired by audience suggestions. Come see why Einstein Simplified is a Knoxville audience favorite.

Tuesday, April 19: Longbranch Saloon Open Mic (open mic)
Longbranch Saloon. 9 pm. No cover. 18+.

It’s a special evening of open mic comedy at the Longbranch Saloon with special co-headlining performances from Knoxville’s Alex Stokes and Nashville’s Monty Mitchell. Nashville’s Joe Kelley is also scheduled to perform. John Miller is your host for the evening.

Wednesday, April 20: Tennessee Shines (variety)
Boyd’s Jig and Reel. 7 pm. $10.

Tennessee Shines is a weekly live radio show on WDVX-FM hosted by Paige Travis. Each week’s show features a mixture of music and other performances to entertain the live audience at Boyd’s Jig and Reel, along with those listening at home in East Tennessee on WDVX-FM or around the world on wdvx.com. This week’s show features performances from Australian guitar virtuoso Geoff Achison and Knoxville comedian Shane Rhyne.

Wednesday, April 20: Reefer Madness (experimental)

It’s an evening of movie riffing with the cult classic Reefer Madness. Victor Agreda, Jr. is your host for another edition of Scruffy Science Cinepub 6000, and he has help tonight from comedians Liz Brooks, Tyler Sonnichsen, and Matt Ward.

Thursday, April 21: Beer Market Comedy Showcase (stand-up)
Bearden Beer Market. 7:30 pm. No cover. 18+.

Welcome a new monthly comedy showcase to the Scruffy City Comedy scene with the debut of Beer Market Comedy Showcase. Produced by Jeff Danger and Kevin Shockley, this month’s show features performances from Matt Ward, Grady Ray, Larissa Radtke, John Miller, and Jeff Danger. Kevin Shockley is the host.

Friday, April 22: Cattywampus Puppet Council (experimental/variety)

Join the Cattywampus Puppet Council for their 2nd Annual Spring Revue and Variety Show, featuring a mixture of music, performance art, puppetry, comedy, and dancing with wild abandon.
