Laugh in Public – Your Guide to Live Comedy in East Tennessee (March 10-20)

Welcome to another weekly edition of the Scruffy City Live Comedy Guide in East Tennessee. It’s packed full of information to help you find live comedy events across the 423 and 865 area code regions of East Tennessee from this weekend to next weekend.

From the Choo-Choo City to the Atomic City to the Tri-Cities, we’ve got all kinds of live comedy events for you to enjoy from the theater stage to the basketball court. It’s an amazing week of comedy in East Tennessee when the schedule includes performances from the Upright Citizens Brigade, the Harlem Globetrotters, Last Comic Standing‘s Monroe Martin, and more. Last Comic Standing finalist Monroe Martin brings his comedy to Chattanooga’s Comedy Catch for a weekend of hilarity.

Mecca Lounge. 10 pm. No cover. 18+

Johnson City’s open mic comedy night returns to the Mecca Lounge with host Jessica Lane. Come be a part of the fun every other Thursday downtown.

Thursday, March 17: St. Patrick’s Day Comedy (stand-up)
Capone’s. 8 pm. $5. 21+

It’s just the amount of wild, untamed comedy you need for America’s favorite night of drinking, featuring performances from Hunter Roberts, Jessica Lane, Jacob Moore, Stephen Bashor, Joey Tucciarone, and Jenna Duvall.

Friday, March 18: Upright Citizens Brigade (improv)
Culp Auditorium. 8 pm.

The nationally-acclaimed Upright Citizens Brigade (UCB) brings its touring company to the East Tennessee State University campus.

KNOXVILLE

Thursday, March 10: Pizza Ha’s (stand-up)
Pizza Hoss. 8 pm. No cover. 18+

It’s the debut of a new monthly show at the Pizza Hoss pizza parlor and craft beer bar in Powell. The show will be held on the second Thursday of each month. This month’s show features performances from Matt Chadourne, Shane Rhyne, Sean Simoneau, and Tyler Sonnichsen.

Friday, March 11: Fourth and Gill Friday! (open mic)
Sassy Ann’s. 9 pm. No cover. 21+

Sassy Ann’s might look like your grandma’s house on the outside, but inside you’ll find two bars, a dance floor, and live comedy. Join guest host Shane Rhyne for an evening of open mic comedy with some special guest featured comedians.

Sunday, March 13: Upstairs Underground Comedy Show (open mic)
Preservation Pub. 8 pm. No cover if you arrive before 8 pm. 21+

Join Boston McCown for an evening of open mic comedy on Market Square with local and visiting comedians.

Monday, March 14: The Party Decides (experimental)
Pilot Light. 7:30 pm. No cover. 18+

This week’s show finds performers creating original characters to run as presidential candidates who must then be prepared to debate important questions. The audience will vote on a winning candidate.

Tuesday, March 15: The Harlem Globetrotters (sports/comedy)
Thompson-Boling Arena. 7 pm. $22.50-$123.50. All ages.

The clown princes of basketball return to Knoxville as part of the Harlem Globetrotters‘ 90th anniversary world tour. Learn from our mistakes: do NOT bet on the Washington Generals.

Tuesday, March 15: Einstein Simplified (improv)
Scruffy City Hall. 8:15 pm. No cover. 18+

Knoxville’s longest-running improv comedy troupe, Einstein Simplified, meets once again on Market Square to make you laugh.

Tuesday, March 15: Longbranch Saloon Open Mic (open-mic)
Longbranch Saloon. 9 pm. No cover. 18+

Open mic comedy, hosted by John Miller, at The Strip’s legendary live entertainment venue, The Longbranch Saloon.

Tuesday, March 15: Old City Comedy presents Todd Gosser and The Gov’Na (stand-up)
Carleo’s Lounge. 9:45 pm. No cover. 21+

Gulf Coast area comedians Todd Gosser and The Gov’Na arrive in Knoxville’s Old City for a night of stand-up comedy. Local comics performing include Jeff Danger, Daniel Wade, and Jake James. JC Ratliff is your host for the evening.

Thursday, March 17: Head Over Heels (theater)
Knoxville Civic Auditorium. 8 pm. $45.50-$51.50. All ages/PG

HBO and BET comedian Tony Tone leads an all-star cast including Grammy-nominated R&B singer Kenny Lattimore and jazz legend Theresa Hightower, in this nationally-touring production of the gospel music comedy Head Over Heels.

Comedy at the Grove presents an evening with the Future Queens of Comedy, with scheduled performances from Jenn Snyder, Kristine Kinsey, Jennifer Lynch, and Miss James Holdiness. Bridgette Martin is your host for the evening.
